As writers we must create an enjoyable workspace that allows our creative juices to flow and yet, we must not get too complacent because if we do, we will never maintain the productivity levels needed to succeed as writers or authors, whether we write articles for magazines, books, online or even screenplays. Many writers write from home, which is nice, but it can be distracting at times.
Let me explain how I write from home and my workspace and see if this gives you some ideas to create the ideal environment for your writing. You see, my setup is in the living room overlooking a beautiful golf-course, with bird feeders hanging for finches and hummingbirds. Local wildlife like the Roadrunners, rabbits and various critters wonder by during the day.
I take my laptop for writing placing it on a high table in the corner of the living room and scoot a portable table on wheels over along side of me, which I place my day planner and note book on, this works great. The high table allows me to stand when working sometimes, as sitting down too much is probably not good for you and I've noted that my voice software seems to work best when standing, perhaps better airflow through the windpipe?
In this living room set up, there is a medium level table filled with whatever books I am reviewing that have to do with the articles that I am writing from my library. Since I write articles in sets, I collect books from my library on the subject that are of interest to me on those topics and place them within arm's length.
For me this is the perfect set up and workplace with a perfect view to create and remain productive on my quest to write great material. Now, consider if you will the type of inspiration you need to write well, and which part of the house you feel most comfortable writing from, then consider what I've said here, and which components seem viable for the way you write. All writers and authors must customize their workspace and understand it's importance.
