The division between work life and living life can be hard. I work at home and the only boss is me. If I don't do the work, it doesn't get done. And there's always something to be done. Always. It's hard to feel ok about stepping away from the com...

Hi Lindsay,
Thank for commenting on my blog, I really appreciate the feedback. I find it interesting that you are involved with youth theatre as my son Eric is an actor. He graduated from the combined University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) / Sheridan College Drama / Theatre Arts program.

Aside from my normal writing activities I've recently begun working on a play specifically for young people. The concept of the piece is a Halloween musical. My play however is not intended to be performed only by kids in school but rather in theatre with proper staging lighting and sets. Some of the characters are children.

The object of the production is to expose kids to live theatre, (think school groups) as well as creating a legitimate piece of theatre for general audiences. A component of the production is a representation of many of the historical origins of Halloween but in a very lively entertaining and sometimes humorous way.

The work is still in the concept / draft stage with much yet to be done. I've been working on lyrics for some of the songs but need someone who can set them to music.

Hi Lindsay!

Profile Information

About Me:
I am the resident playwright for Theatrefolk. We publish plays specifically for schools and student performers. Plays for youth are my specialty. I strongly support drama in the schools; every student needs to learn how to communicate, to express themselves, to work in a team, to speak with confidence. That's drama.

Catching Fireflies

I'm in the creative stage of a new play. It's the point when everything is right, when there are no mistakes, no plot holes to fix, no need to make everything come together. It's raw ideas, fragments of dialogue, research and so on. It's a lovely time. Sometimes I feel it's the best part of being a writer. Raw creativity. It can also get overwhelming. Thinking is by no means coal mining, it's ridiculous to say it's difficult, but it does overwhelm every other part of life. I've done so many stup… Continue

Observation in Action

This past weekend I participated in the Uth Ink program.

Uth Ink combines youth with playwriting and community. This is something I feel quite strongly about and was pleased to take part. Anything that gets teens writing is ok by me.

My job was to provide a day long workshop exploring how one can be inspired to write about their community, and more specifically a physical connection to a place within that community. Then, provide the tools to take that inspira… Continue
