- I'm a writer, educator, singer and actress - in no particular order - although I do more writing these days than anything else since I can (sometimes) get paid to do it.
My "baby" is my blog at http://www.debgallardo.com/virtuoso/, where I help fiction writers find story ideas. I also provide creative writing exercises, writing tips, resources and inspiration.
I've just launched an ebook entitled, "Story Ideas -- Inside Your Newspaper." It takes the reader step-by-step through the process I used to conceive and write a short story inspired by a classified ad. (The story was bought two weeks after I submitted it!)
I am a single mom of a beautiful, talented child who is in art college 400 miles away (sigh) in the DC-area. I substitute teach and direct an adult choir and a children's choir.
My earliest love was musical theatre, and I spent my high school and college years firmly entrenched there. After a hiatus of over 3 decades, I've returned to my hometown. In 2001 I began performing not only in semi-professional musical productions, but also dinner theatre and community theatre productions. I'm more at ease on stage, whether conducting, performing or speaking in front of groups, than any other area of endeavor.
Even at 59, however, I'm still evolving, still reinventing myself. Who knows what the next few years of my life hold? At least I'm old enough to appreciate them, whatever comes my way.
